ABOUT OUR DRUM LESSONS
The Hilliard Music Academy offers the most comprehensive drum lessons in Hilliard, Ohio! Our drum instructors teach multiple styles, including, but not limited to, blues, funk, jazz, rock, and metal. Drum language can be complex, and our teachers will challenge any drummer with a variety of technical exercises designed to improve your skills. Students can bring in their favorite songs and riffs to learn in their lessons, and theory is encouraged. Many of our students play in local bands, as well as in their schools’ marching and orchestral bands.
You don’t have to purchase a drum kit to take lessons! Beginning students can learn with an inexpensive drum pad and sticks. At their lessons, students can use our drum sets and don’t have to bring anything else aside from their own sticks and their lesson book.

Frequently Asked Questions
Still have questions? Here’s everything you need to feel confident getting started.
-
Most students are ready to begin drum lessons around age 6. At this age, children typically have the coordination, focus, and ability to follow instruction needed to be successful in a private lesson setting.
For younger children (ages 3–5), we recommend starting with our early childhood program, which builds the foundational skills—rhythm, listening, and coordination—that prepare them for instruments like drums.
Every child develops at their own pace, so if you’re unsure, we’re happy to help you decide if your child is ready.
-
You don’t need a drum set to start lessons. Many students start out on a practice pad with drum sticks. Once you become more advance your teacher can give you specific recommendations on what to purchase based on your goals and budget.
-
No problem at all. We offer unlimited makeup lessons with 24 hours’ notice — just give us notice and we'll find another time that works. We understand that life happens and we never penalize families for it.
-
No long-term contracts, ever. We operate on a month-to-month basis and only require 30 days notice to pause or stop lessons.
